Who are we

We are two academics working in The Netherlands seeking to move beyond the comfort zone of scholarly writing. We realized that scientific work has produced a large amount of knowledge that too often remains undercover in the maze of academic journals. We asked ourselves how to tackle those problems that academics have, by now, extensively explained and described – unfortunately without the necessary impact in society. As many, we started to join forces with others, to campaign and to share our preoccupations with others, to engage in activism. In these contexts, we were confronted with the limits of both academic jargon and casual conversation. We needed to find a new way to communicate, convince and mobilize, positioned in between technical vocabulary and popular platitudes (genre: ‘we all need to do our share’). In this blog we aim to share our thoughts in a way that bridges science, political activism and everyday experience.
